Wine Barrel Liquor Cabinet

NEW DESIGN! The Wine Barrel Liquor Cabinet has been re-engineered to provide an enhanced and more eco-friendly product. Once a wine barrel has been in use for 2-3 years the tannin’s and the woody flavor have been absorbed by the wine and the barrel is not usable for further ageing of wine. The INNERSTAVE system is used to extend the life of the wine barrels used in the ageing of fine wine. The addition of the staves into the barrel performs the same oak ageing process as a new barrel and also utilizes a substantial portion of the oak tree not suitable for use in cooperage due to size and grain.

After the barrel is retired the Innerstave is disposed with the barrel and the Innerstave recovered when the barrel is cut (see Photos 6-8 above), beautifully wine stained to perfectly match the interior of the barrel. It took Baloo a while to develop a use for the staves which seems intuitive now, as raw material for the wine rack and shelf edging. This eliminated the use of stains to match the barrel color and also reduces my cost of materials which I can pass on to the customer! Eco-friendly all around! Also, all future BarLiqCabs will come with two shelves which are fastened at the level of the middle bands.

This beautiful liquor cabinet has been created from a reused solid oak wine barrel. These barrels were hand crafted in cooperages in Europe and North America and were used by wineries in the Okanagan and Napa valleys in the process of ageing red wine The original cooperage brand and markings, the years of red wine stains and the wine crystals remaining on the interior all remind you of the original purpose and years of use. The unique full-length opening door design feature was developed by Baloo who has built over 40 barrels using this technique.

This rustic cabinet includes many sophisticated features:
– Full length door design exclusive to Baloo
– Stainless steel wire hanging glass rack for four to six wine glasses
– 12 bottle wine rack constructed from reclaimed INNERSTAVE oak
– Half-round glass shelf for stand-up bottles and glasses
– Four in-door shelves for glasses, bottles, cork screws, etc. Edging uses reclaimed INNERSTAVE oak

Wine barrels start their lives, well… full of wine! Once decommissioned the barrels staves, which have been saturated in the lovely liquid will begin to dry out and shrink. The steel bands are the only thing holding a barrel together; no glue, nails or screws are used. Once the steel bands have been cut it is necessary to secure the barrel from falling apart!
The structural integrity of this cabinet has been assured through the use of cross bolting and screws.
– The barrel is given a light sanding and finished with a light linseed oil application.
